About Me
D’Nyah Jefferson-Philmore is a graduating senior at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she is earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she developed a strong connection to storytelling and community at an early age, shaping her perspective as a journalist.
Her passion for journalism is rooted in her ability to inform, connect, and tell stories that reflect real experiences. What began as an interest in communication has grown into a commitment to producing clear, accurate, and impactful content that resonates with diverse audiences.
As an undergraduate student, Jefferson-Philmore has gained experience across journalism and communications. She currently serves as a copy editor for The Hilltop, Howard University’s collegiate newspaper, where she edits articles for AP style, grammar, accuracy, and clarity. In this role, she works closely with writers to strengthen structure and ensure stories meet publication standards in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
In addition, she has built experience in both political and corporate communications. As a Communications Intern, she drafted press releases and newsletters, designed an informational pamphlet to help residents navigate local government resources, and co-produced a video series focused on increasing youth civic engagement. During her time at Independence Blue Cross, she created internal and external content and analyzed customer call data to identify trends and present strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
With the skills she has developed, Jefferson-Philmore plans to pursue a career as an on-air news reporter, using multimedia storytelling to deliver clear, impactful news and bring greater visibility to underrepresented communities.
